80 Arrests at "Love Festival" Rave for Fake IDs, Drug Possession
City and county officials in Los Angeles and around California have been looking into whether giant raves should continue to be held on public property after several drug overdoses have occurred during the events. The Coliseum Commission almost disallowed the recent 18th annual "Love Festival" rave from occurring at the L.A. Sports Arena following a 15-year-old's death from a drug overdose (likely Ecstasy) after attending the Electric Daisy Carnival in June. Eventually, they decided to go ahead with the event and two more like it after imposing stricter regulations.
Minors were banned from attending the latest rave. Those under 16 were not officially supposed to attend the Electric Daisy Carnival, but no one was checking IDs. IDs were assiduously checked at the Love Festival to make sure partygoers were at least 18 years old. Law enforcement officials arrested 80 people, mostly for drug-related offenses and using fake IDs.
